Portia Gordon, PhD, LPC-S, RPT-S, ICST

I believe healing begins when you feel seen, understood, and safe enough to show up as your whole self. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and grounded in social justice. I take time to understand each client so that we can create a healing plan tailored to your experiences, needs, and goals.

I work with clients navigating trauma, PTSD, sexual abuse, grief, depression, anxiety, gender and sexuality, and nontraditional relationships. I also specialize in supporting helping professionals, leaders, and high-achieving individuals experiencing burnout, compassion fatigue, emotional exhaustion, or the pressure to remain strong for everyone else.

Using EMDR, play therapy, sandtray therapy, and expressive approaches, I help clients process experiences beyond traditional talk therapy. Our work can help you understand what you have been carrying, reconnect with yourself, establish healthier boundaries, and build a life that feels sustainable—not simply productive.

I provide affirming care for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clients, as well as people in kink and polyamorous communities. Whether we meet for ongoing counseling or a personalized trauma therapy intensive, you can expect care that respects your identity, lived experiences, needs, and individual pace.

Counseling Approach

Portia’s approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, and grounded in social justice. She helps clients understand how trauma, identity, relationships, work, cultural expectations, and systemic pressures may affect their sense of emotional safety and contribute to burnout.

Using EMDR, play therapy, sandtray therapy, and expressive approaches, Portia creates opportunities to process experiences that may be difficult to explain through words alone. Treatment is personalized to help each client move out of survival mode, reconnect with themselves, establish healthier boundaries, and build a life that feels emotionally safe and sustainable.
